If you are not a big DJ fan, then you probably won’t know about the Redbull Thre3style 2016 Competition that was held in Santiago, Chile. With the finest DJ’s from all over the world & thousands of viewers watching Deejay Puffy massacred the competition walking away as the 2016 winner. What makes his story even more awesome is that he was a “Wild Card”, that’s right! He came in as an underdog and stole the competition and has gained thousands of fans and followers who are now eager to see where 2017 takes the twenty-five (25) year old Barbadian deejay.

If you have been following our blog... We have always made reference to him and were not surprised that he came out the winner of the competition. We aren’t bandwagonist’s over here (insert shade here)...

Here are a few tips we’ve picked up from Deejay Puffy that you can apply to your career.

1) Consistency!

Listen… If you take a look at his social media platforms, you are guaranteed to see a post on FB, Instagram & Snapchat every day. By him doing this, his fan base expects to see daily what he’s working on, where he’s travelling to & what events he’s playing at. It keeps us consistently connected to his brand and makes us feel almost apart of the ride.

By consistently practicing his craft he has developed his DJ skills and has impressed DJ legends that have been on the scene for years. Let me tell you this, there is no such thing as an “overnight success”…people just start to notice you overnight after one big accomplishment. Mr. Parris has been out here killing it in these streets for years…

Tip: Consistency is the difference between a one hit wonder and someone who actively works to position themselves as a major player in the game.

2) Personal Branding Can Make You or Break You!

The 2012 Puffy & 2016 Puffy are two totally different images. His brand has shifted to a more urban edgy vibe which totally encompasses his brand. He’s also invested in a photographer who documents his journey which allows us to see the total process from behind the scenes to the final product in a high quality format.

Tip: To take your career to the next level one must ensure their personal brand is the same across the board. You can’t be high quality when you go to an interview and present a substandard image at work when you show up for the job.

3) Invest In You

From following his YouTube Channel we’ve observed he’s made several investments into developing his career. From attending DJ Scratch schools to investing in quality equipment that would make his overall product & delivery better for his audience.

Tip: You can apply the same principle regardless of how small it may be: take a course to stay up-to-date with what’s current in your field or enroll in one of our HR Boss boot camps that can jump start your job search or help you progress in your career.

4) Never Settle & Stay Humble

We often ask ourselves...wait this man don’t cut out?!...This expression in its purest Bajan form embodies how we view this rising superstar. He puts in the work! Period! Whether its hours of practicing, editing videos on flights or in transit between various airports, there is no deliberation when we say he goes hard after what he wants.

Tip: We become what we consistently want to be by consistently being what we want to become each day.- Richard. G. Scott
