Workplace Romance

Today is Valentine's Day and to celebrate, I thought I would do a blog on work-place relationships.

I have often seen many people fall victim to an office romance without knowing that it could lead to a lack of credibility, office gossip and an unprofessional look…trust me I’ve been there.

I have a few tips to help you escape the torment of office gossip:

Tip #1: Avoid work-place relationships if you can!

Trust, I know that the new guy or girl in the Finance Department is giving you all kinds of life when you see him at the fax machine but hold the faith! There are plenty other guys or girls out there that don’t share your work environment.

Fact: You do not want to be labelled as the office pass around… harsh but true.

Tip #2: If you are already in a relationship with a colleague…keep it professional!

Of course you want your love life to remain between you and your partner, but the mere fact that people at the office know that you guys are dating means that they will speculate.

Ensure you are professional at all times, eat lunch with other work colleagues or off site with your partner and share limited information with workmates.

Avoid playful sexual contact and conversations with your partner… work isn’t the place for that.

Tip #3: Don’t bring your drama to the workplace

All couples argue, and sometimes don’t like each other very much but …don’t bring it to the workplace. Avoid awkward conversations, contact and visible annoyance at work.

This can leave your workmates feeling very uncomfortable and may stop them from getting the job done.

Tip # 4: Keep it on the low!

Beyonce and Jay-z have perfected this...Yaaas! If people don’t know you are together keep it that way. If they do…give them nothing to say…
