We all want to be the Olivia Pope of our team!
When there is a crisis or when nobody knows how to do it you are the person they call for answers! (Yes, I’m obsessed with Scandal)
Here are a few tips to make you that gladiator that you are:
1. Show initiative
Although you are not the boss, showing initiative will show your ability to lead the team and show your analytical ability.
2. Be a Finisher
Be the Huck of your team!
It’s OK to have ideas but if there is no one to see them through to completion and get results, the ideas are just that; IDEAS!
We all know Olivia develops the strategy but HUCK handles the dirty work.
3. Educate Yourself
In this world of constant change you need to stay on top of your game with technology and you must constantly advance yourself to be an expert in your field. You don’t want a young fresh face out of University coming in with more qualifications that you. ERROR!
4. Don’t Show up just for the Paycheck!
We all know people who come to work patiently anticipating their end of the month cheque and do as little as possible to barely get by leaving the brunt of the work on the rest of the team.
Let me tell you this Boo… in times of restructuring or laying off you will be the first to go!
Don’t let this be you, give your employer value for their money.
5. Be Flexible
Sometimes your boss may ask you to complete tasks that are outside of your job description. Think of it as giving you exposure to new areas, added responsibility and your boss having confidence that you are capable of pulling off any task.
Don’t be one of those persons who refuses to do the tasks or does it very poorly because its not on your job description. Your boss will see you in a very poor light especially when it comes to promotion time.
