Techniques to Combat Burn-Out

Over the last few days I’ve been struggling to focus on anything including my 9-5 job, my business, or my book. That’s not to mention my family, friends and love life.
Somehow, the Energizer Bunny that had always been going inside me stopped working. My friends often marveled at how busy I was each day. That, coupled with my insane workload and the remarkable amount of pressure I place on myself led me to experience the dreaded word: burn-out.
My friends and family have constantly warned me against over extending myself and taking up too many projects. “Get some rest” is the constant chorus they would sing. But what the hell is rest? Especially when there is money to be made and empires to be built. In my mind, someone needed to give them the memo.
It is only on July 01, 2016, one day after my birthday, the exact date my Energizer Bunny stopped working, that I understood what the term “burn out” meant.
I experienced:
Fatigue
Severe exhaustion (the feeling tired of tiredness even after sleeping for eight hours).
Lack of focus (taking an hour to do a task that would normally take ten minutes).
Demotivation (uninspired to even pursue projects that you are normally passionate about).
Frustration (feeling so fed up with your work or current situation that you do the bare minimum to get by).
I never imagined that I would become so demotivated that it would block my creativity and ability to create new content for the business I’m so passionate about. But ladies and gentleman that’s what burn out does.
Tweetable: “Over extending could lead to under producing! #burnout”
If you keep going, going, going, you’ll end up gone. Constantly overextending yourself may cause you to achieve a less than desirable result.
Here are some changes I made to get me out of my rut:
Rest- Although I’m still not getting enough sleep, rest is absolutely necessary to recharge and revitalize. When I power nap I wake up feeling like superwoman.
Relax- Trust me, I didn’t know how to do this to the point where my friends stopped asking me to go out because I was ALWAYS working. However, since my mini meltdown… I’ve realized what good is success if there is no one to share it with.
Everything is figureoutable!- In the words of Marie Forleo; if I feel overwhelmed by all that’s going on in my life, I put it all out on paper and create a written strategy on how I will approach each problem and that seems to help me take control of the situation.
Exercise- Although this is my least favorite thing to do; exercise puts me in the right mood to slay my goals. I feel like my body has to be in top working condition in order for me to be successful and so, I treat my body like a temple.
I hope my burnout struggle has helped you to realize that you too many be a victim or has aided in your prevention. If you are interested in more tips to combat burnout or my journey to getting my back become a member of my website and follow my vlogs on YouTube.
